30 Second STOP

Description:
Whenever you are feeling stressed, whatever you are doing, walking along the street, folding laundry, sitting at your desk-STOP! Yes, stop completely, no movement(except your breathing!). For thirty seconds, just be present with whatever is happening.

Ask yourself: am I breathing? where is the mind, in the past? the present? or the future? What emotions am I feeling?

Observe yourself with compassion and non-judgment, then continue with your activity.

When and Where:
Anytime, anywhere, whenever you remember. Try this by yourself or with a friend: maybe when you are driving and come to a STOP sign, maybe in the grocery store, in an elevator for example.

Benefits:
When you stop suddenly and come into the present, you bring greater self-awareness to your activities. Meditation is awareness. By practicing this technique regularly, by and by a subtle relaxed alertness begins to weave itself into your day. It gives you a temporary respite in the midst of a busy day and helps you feel more in touch with yourself and in control of your life.
